SEQUIM — Dr. Lesley Tinker will present “Lowering Your Diabetes Risk” at the Olympic Medical Center Medical Services Building, 840 N. Fifth Ave., in Sequim, at 7 p.m. Thursday (Oct. 25).
The event is free and open to the public.
Tinker works at Seattle’s Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center.
U.S. diabetes rates continue to rise, and if current trends continue, more than 11 percent of the nation’s population will have the disease by 2030.
New research also shows that people with diabetes may be at higher risk of developing some cancers.
Type 2 diabetes is preventable, particularly through modest weight loss, an increase in physical activity and healthy eating.
Tinker will share research in these areas at the lecture.
The event is presented by OMC, the Seattle Cancer Care Alliance and the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center.
