PORT ANGELES — It has taken 20 years, but the Port of Port Angeles finally has a deal to sell its downtown property at the corner of Front and Oak streets.
Developer Harry Dorssers handed a $20,000 check to Port attorney Dave Neupert on Monday afternoon as earnest money for the 1.9-acre waterfront parcel.
The balance of the $800,000 purchase price is due at closing, which must be within six months, according to the purchase and sale agreement unanimously approved Monday afternoon by Port commissioners.
“I want to make your city better because I love it. I want to do something with it, make it more beautiful,” Dorssers said.
A developer of European aquatic centers who married a Port Angeles native, Dina Thomsen, Dorssers has proposed a project that could include condominiums, possibly as part of a hotel, plus perhaps an aquatic center and retail space along the streets.
Dorssers said Monday he will build the condominiums first in his development proposal and then see about the swimming pool.
