SEQUIM – Decades from now, Dave LeRoux just might be known as one of Sequim’s latter-day pioneers.
In the midst of the Dungeness Valley development boom, his eyes are on the sky.
LeRoux, 56, is the developer of the Discovery Trail Farm, the first project of its kind on the North Olympic Peninsula.
This trend-bucking tract promises its homeowners easy access to the adjacent Sequim Valley Airport, unobstructed views of the Olympic Mountains, freedom from night pollution caused by too-bright lights – and a hand in preservation of prime farmland.
Fifty of the development’s 65 acres will never see buildings, thanks to a North Olympic Land Trust conservation easement.
Sequim native Gene Adolphsen has been farming this land for more than 15 years, and he plans to continue.
The conservation agreement, said Land Trust manager Allison Lutz, will keep the space open in perpetuity.
Establishing that easement, Lutz said, was part of a protracted process of gaining Clallam County’s approval of LeRoux’s plans for homes clustered on a small portion of the parcel.
