JOYCE — Clallam County sheriff’s detectives will look into the forensics and physical evidence in a gun burglary which launched a four-hour manhunt on Friday.
Undersheriff Ron Peregrin said the Sheriff Department’s manhunt part of the case is over because deputies were unsuccessful in locating the burglar.
“This is an open investigation, and we’ll see where it leads us,” he said.
He added that detectives will be looking for any similarities to other cases.
“Sometimes if there is a common thread, they can link them together and solve more than one at a time,” Peregrin said.
The residents of a home at 51483 State Highway 112 in Joyce said they saw a man run into the woods north of their house at 2:30 p.m. Friday carrying their 12-gauge shotgun and .45 caliber pistol, Peregrin said.
The couple didn’t know who the man was and couldn’t describe him, Peregrin said.
They didn’t report anything else stolen, he said.
The manhunt led to a three-hour lockdown of nearby Crescent School, which was in session.
About 35 students were there for football and cheerleading practice.
