PORT ANGELES — Opponents and supporters of the war in Iraq took time Saturday to exercise their right to assembly, marking the beginning of the war’s fourth year.
The anti-war demonstration, which started at Veterans Park on Lincoln Street, featured speakers and ended with a march through downtown, with participants holding signs, playing musical instruments and singing.
The rally and march were sponsored by the Green Party of Clallam County, Veterans for Peace and the Clallam County Peace Coalition.
Two Port Angeles Police officers followed the procession from across the street, but anti-war demonstrators were peaceful and remained on the sidewalk.
Organizers said more than 100 people turned out.
At the convergence of U.S. Highway 101 near Golf Course Road, about 20 demonstrators waving flags and holding signs in support of U.S. military personnel drew honks from passing motorists.
