FORKS — Forks is ready for a smashing good time.
The Demolition Derby — one of the highlights of the Forks Old-Fashioned Fourth of July celebration — will bang up, ding, smash and crumble more than 30 cars.
Admission is $8 to the show that begins at 3 p.m. today at the Tillicum Park Arena
“We have more cars than we ever have,” said Pat Soderlind, city events coordinator.
The cars will smash and crash until there’s little left.
“We’ll smash them until they are just little hunks of metal,” she said.
“They’ll keep at it until the cars can’t run anymore.
“A lot of demolition derbies don’t do that because they want to be able to use the cars again, but we crash them until they are not able to be driven anymore.”
The group usually looks for large cars with heavy metal frames, Soderlind said.
“They hold up longer and make it more fun,” she said.
The derby will also feature a mini-car heat and various competitions between groups throughout the afternoon.
