Democrats invited to rally in Port Angeles, Sequim today

Democrats opposed to actions being taken in Washington, D.C., are invited to rallies in Port Angeles and Sequim today.

The rallies will be from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the corner of First and Lincoln streets in Port Angeles and at the corner of Washington and Sequim avenues in Sequim.

“Events are unfolding at a breakneck pace in Washington, D.C.,” said Brian Grad, who organized the rallies. “It seems like every day, we are facing a new crisis, another threat to our democracy and well-being.”

He urged participants to bring signs to express the messages most important to them — and offered a few suggestions.

“From a disastrous health care proposal to the dismantling of the institutions which provide regulations to keep our air and water clean, ensure the quality of food and drugs, and keep our workplaces safe, it feels as though we are under siege,” Grad said.

He mentioned supporting a delay in the vote to confirm Neil Gorsuch for the Supreme Court; a call for Congressman Devin Nunes, the chair of the House Intelligence Committee, to recuse himself; and demanded a special prosecutor to investigate alleged Russian interference in the U.S. national election in November “and possible collusion with the Trump administration.”

The rallies are not an official county party effort, said Craig Ritchie, Clallam County Democratic Party co-chair, “but we are not opposed to it.”
