PORT ANGELES — Those interested in joining a delegation led by Port Angeles Mayor Cherie Kidd to Victoria to join the celebration of Canada Day on Monday, July 1, are asked to contact her.
Kidd said the Port Angeles delegation — which will include City Councilman Pat Downie — will be welcomed by Victoria City Councillor Charlayne Thornton-Joe, who will provide free red T-shirts for the Canadian Maple Leaf annual portrait on the
lawn of the Legislative Assembly of British
Columbia building.
Victoria AM also will greet the delegation, Kidd said.
The Port Angeles group will take the 8:15 a.m. MV Coho to Victoria. Families are welcome, Kidd said.
The visit is not a city-sponsored event, and all participants pay their own way, Kidd said.
“It’s just part of our ongoing efforts to participate in each other’s events back and forth and encourage tourism in each other’s cities,” Kidd said.
Last year, about 25 people traveled to Victoria for Canada Day.
“It was wonderful, so we’re going over again,” Kidd said.
After the photograph, Port Angeles visitors can go to the carnival, shop, dine, sightsee and watch a fireworks display, Kidd said.
Discussion is under way about a date that members of the Victoria City Council can visit Port Angeles, she said.
