PORT ANGELES — Federal funds soon may start to flow for a Deer Park Road overpass via the present Port Angeles Gun Club or through an existing rest stop.
Clallam County commissioners today will sign a “project prospectus and local agency agreement” with the state Department of Transportation for an interchange at U.S. Highway 101.
It will allow the county to be reimbursed for engineering design expenses, said County Engineer Ross Tyler.
Building the overpass through gun club property would be more direct, he said, but the rest stop route would be cheaper.
According to the prospectus, the project would cost just more than $7.6 million, with about $3.6 million coming from the state and about $4 million from federal funds.
Deer Park Road’s intersection with Highway 101 east of Port Angeles has been a driver’s headache for a decade, with the pain increasing as the area develops.
