SEQUIM — Work on the city’s newest street, South 14th Avenue, is complete, and city officials will dedicate it for traffic Tuesday.
Meanwhile, sidewalk construction is set to begin today on the east side of North Third Avenue, starting at the alley between West Spruce Street and West Alder Street and running north to West Fir Street.
The city of Sequim will conduct a ribbon-cutting ceremony to celebrate the opening of South 14th Avenue at 9 a.m. Tuesday.
The ceremony will take place on the new street between Grant Road and West Washington Street, next to the Clallam County maintenance shop.
Seton Construction of Jefferson County was awarded the $119,000 South 14th Avenue contract that Clallam County engineered and designed as part of its mutual assistance agreement with the city of Sequim.
Construction began Nov. 7.
South 14th Avenue, which the City Council named this year, is a new connecting street between Grant Road and West Washington Street.
It will allow motorists to bypass left turns from Grant onto busy River Road, the U.S. Highway 101 entrance into Sequim’s big-box store commercial core.
The project was funded by the city’s Transportation Benefit District.
C&J Excavating was awarded the $39,074 North Third Avenue sidewalk contract, the lowest of eight bids and below the city’s estimate of $48,520.
Sidewalk work is expected to be completed Dec. 21.
North Third Avenue motorists can expect traffic control during work hours from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
No parking will be allowed along the east side of the avenue during the project.
