FORKS — A bold daylight burglary during a snowstorm was reported last week.
A Wood Street home was burglarized at about 2 p.m. Tuesday after the resident gave a ride to a man she knew and who was away from home for about 10 minutes, Forks Police Sgt. Ed Klahn said in a statement.
“When the resident came home, she found her back door kicked in,” Klahn said.
“Several items were taken from the residence.”
Klahn said it was possible the homeowner was encouraged to leave her home so that an accomplice could break into the home while she was away.
“Neighbors did report that they had seen a male subject with a backpack check the front and back of the home while the homeowner was away but could not give a good description,” Klahn said.
Witnesses told police they had seen the person who asked for a ride in the area earlier in the day and that he was not alone.
Planning burglaries
“It seems as though criminals are planning their burglaries out and are succeeding,” Klahn said.
Three burglaries have been reported in the Forks area since Nov. 3, according to Forks police.
Klahn asked for residents’ assistance in catching the suspected burglars.
Forks-area residents are encouraged to report suspicious activity to the police as soon as possible.
Residents should not put themselves in danger, Klahn said, but should try to obtain as much information as they can safely.
“Clear descriptions and/or identifying information from community members will and already have helped law enforcement officers solve these types of crimes,” Klahn said.
