Volunteer Day of Caring projects begin today.
The projects in Sequim, Port Angeles, Forks and Clallam Bay-Sekiu kick off the United Way of Clallam County’s 2009-2010 fundraising campaign. The goal is to raise $1.1 million for 27 member nonprofit agencies.
All the projects begin at 9 a.m. They are:
Sequim projects
Both today and Saturday, volunteers will clean up, landscape and paint at Sequim Community School, 220 W. Alder St., for the First Teacher program.
On Saturday only, a cleanup is planned at Sequim Food Bank, 144 W. Alder St.
Also on Saturday only, the Sequim School District soccer programs need help to build a soccer storage shed. Volunteers, who should bring work gloves and carpentry hand tools, will meet in the middle of the north soccer field at Hendrickson Street and north Sequim Avenue.
Port Angeles projects
Four projects are planned for both today and Saturday.
Painting and cleaning will be done at the First Step Family Support Center, 325 E. Sixth St.
The Paint The Town project through Volunteer Chore Services at 630 E. Front St., Suite D, will paint homes of low-income seniors or disabled adults,
At St. Andrew’s Place, 520 E. Park Ave., volunteers will socialize with seniors or landscape and clean up the grounds.
Volunteers working with the Port Angeles Parks and Recreation Division will clean up Francis Street Park and Valley Estuary Park.
Also, on Saturday only, in connection with the Day of Caring, the Olympic Peninsula Chapter of the American Red Cross plans a class in cardiopulmonary resuscitation for a $10 fee. The class will be from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Elks Naval Lodge, 131 E. First St. Phone 360-457-7933 to register.
Forks
Forks volunteers will clean up the town today in preparation for Stephenie Meyer Day weekend Saturday and Sunday.
Volunteers can meet from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Quillayute Valley School District administration building, 191 S. Spartan Ave. Superintendent Diana Reaume is the project coordinator.
Clallam Bay/Sekiu
Volunteers will clean up and landscape the West End Youth & Community Club in Sekiu.
