Darn Fine Garage Sale this weekend

PORT ANGELES. — The Clallam County Historical Society’s Darn Fine Garage Sale, its largest fundraiser of the year, will be today and Saturday.

Doors at the former Lincoln School at Eighth and C Streets in Port Angeles will open at 8 a.m. and close at 2 p.m. each day.

Prices will be marked on each item both days.

The following weekend, items will be marked down.

Friday, Sept. 12, will be Half Price Day, while Saturday, Sept. 13, will be Buck-A-Bag day, and if an item doesn’t fit in a bag, prices will be negotiated.

The sale is organized like a department store with a furniture section, fabrics, hardware, garden items, electronics, records, CDs and videos, men’s and women’s clothing, kitchen items, linens, crafts and gently used jewelry.

There is also a collectible section for high-end items not usually found in a garage sale, and a book section.

“No matter what you are looking for, the Historical Society’s “Darn Fine” garage sale is the place to shop first,” said Kathy Monds, executive director.

“Not only do we have quality everyday items in the kitchen, craft and holiday sections, we have some treasures that are ‘firsts’ for our sales,” Monds said.

“One interesting piece is a steamer trunk in very good condition,” she said.

“This year’s sale also has many fine pieces of furniture, from sofas to dressers, and we know shoppers will be very pleased with what they find.

“The generosity of our members and friends enables us to recycle merchandise that is in very good condition and offer it to shoppers at very reasonable prices.”

The proceeds from the sale go to the Clallam County Historical Society and help finance its operations, the Lincoln School project and the Museum at the Carnegie.

The old Lincoln School site, purchased by the historical society in 1991 at a cost of $210,000, is intended to house the Clallam County Museum and Resource Center. Now the site hosts both a research library and an artifacts center.

The Clallam County Historical Society has about 450 members and was established in 1948 to preserve and interpret the historical record of Clallam County for the community, students, researchers and its visitors.
