SAN DIEGO, Calif. — The crew of the U.S. Coast Guard cutter Active, which is homeported in Port Angeles, offloaded about 6,570 pounds of cocaine in San Diego.
The seized drugs offloaded Wednesday were the result of multiple interdictions conducted by multiple Coast Guard crews in the eastern Pacific Ocean from mid-September through early October, the Coast Guard said in a press release.
This offload also repre-sented seizures conducted by crews from the Coast Guard cutter James of Charleston, S.C., and the Coast Guard cutter Alert of Astoria, Ore.
“I couldn’t be more proud of the hard work and dedication displayed by my crew, the crews of cutters Alert and James, and the men and women of the aircrews and support networks ashore,” said Cmdr. Chris German, Active’s commanding officer.
“Their teamwork was key to successfully combating transnational organized crime in the drug trafficking zones over the past several months.
“Knowing that we stopped tons of drugs from reaching our streets, and the streets of allied nations in Central and South America, makes the long deployments away from home worth every moment.”
