PORT ANGELES — Opponents of a proposed crematory in Carlsborg have opened a new avenue of attack, this one against the certificate of occupancy for the building to house the facility.
Gerald Steel, attorney for Citizens for Carlsborg, had set a deadline of noon Monday for Clallam County officials to revoke the certificate for a building at 108 Business Park Loop.
On Monday afternoon, he filed his threatened appeal.
County Department of Community Development officials on Tuesday gave Steel the same answer they had given to his deadline: No response.
Steel, an Olympia attorney who specializes in land-use cases — and represents foes of fluoridating Port Angeles’ water supply — said the certificate was improper because the building permit on which it was based had expired.
The permit had been issued in September 2003.
County Building official Leon Smith issued the certificate of occupancy June 2 following a one-time final inspection of the building May 9.
