Crash near Port Townsend involves four vehicles

No injuries in wreck during morning commute

PORT TOWNSEND — A chain-reaction wreck on state Highway 20 during Tuesday’s 8 a.m. commute involved three cars and a pick-up truck, but resulted in no injuries, according to the State Patrol.

Elizabeth Slade, State Patrol spokesperson, said only a 2001 Honda CRV suffered enough damage to be towed from the scene near the intersection of Jacob Miller Road and Mill Road, 1 mile west of Port Townsend. The other vehicles were driven from the scene.

Troopers said the cause of the collisions was Mai T. Garcia, 28, of Chimacum following too closely and that she was cited for the offense.

“Collisions like this happen when you don’t have enough time to see what’s happening in front of you and don’t have time to react,” Slade said.

All four drivers were traveling east on Highway 20 to Jacob Miller Road.

The State Patrol gave this account:

Skyler R. Stekly, 16, of Port Townsend had stopped the 2012 Nissan Leaf he was driving for a line of traffic that had backed up because of the stoplight at Mill Road.

Garcia, who was driving a 2012 Kia Soul, rear-ended Stekly’s car.

Jordan E. Taylor, 25, of Port Townsend — driving a 2000 GMC Sierra pickup — swerved to avoid the first wreck.

He was rear-ended by Jeremy Pease, 46, of Quilcene, who was driving a 2001 Honda CR-V.

All drivers were using seat restraints and no drugs or alcohol were involved in the wrecks, the State Patrol said.

State Patrol investigated the wrecks with the Port Townsend Police Department assisting. East Jefferson Fire-Rescue also assisted, arriving with a fire truck and two ambulances.
