COYLE — In the space of one evening, Correo Aereo — that’s Spanish for air mail — wings across the Americas, touching down in Mexico, Venezuela and Argentina with their violins, harp strings and voices.
The duo, whose latest album is “Para Cantarle al Rio,” (“To Sing to the River”), will arrive in rural Jefferson County for a concert at the Laurel B. Johnson Community Center, 923 Hazel Point Road, this Friday.
This is another in the Concerts in the Woods series, so admission is by donation and all ages are welcome at the 7:30 p.m. show.
As is traditional, coffee and cookies are complimentary at intermission.
Correo Aereo is Madeleine Sosin and Abel Rocha, a pair who sing in harmony while blending string instruments — guitar, harp, cuatro, jarana — with maracas and bombo.
Their instruments and vocals, an Austin Chronicle critic once wrote, sound as though they’re “locked in carnal embrace.”
Along with their own records, including “Semillas de Inmensidad,” (“Seeds of Immensity”), and “Lo Que me Dijo el Viento,” (“The Wind Told Me”), Correo Aereo has contributed to compilations such as Putumayo’s “Music from the Coffee Lands” and the city of Austin’s “On Any Given Evening” CD.
The pair has also played a variety of venues, from Seattle’s Experience Music Project museum to the Knitting Factory in New York City, and also won the Austin, Texas, Music Award for Best Traditional Mexican/Latino Act of 2001.
