A fight erupted between a prisoner and two corrections officers at the Jefferson County jail Wednesday, Undersheriff Tim Perry confirmed Thursday.
The prisoner was in his cell about 7 a.m. with the door open, asking a corrections officer for a transfer to an isolation unit when he lunged at the jailer, Perry said.
While the two grappled, another corrections officer came in from the control room and the two jailers managed to subdue the unidentified inmate.
The prisoner’s head hit the ground, causing bleeding. He was taken to Jefferson Healthcare hospital and treated for the head injury.
One officer was punched and the other was kicked, causing minor bruises, Perry said.
A report was sent to the Jefferson County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office for possible charges.
