Coroner duties to be removed from Clallam prosecuting attorney

One Clallam County measure and one in Jefferson County were passing in initial ballot returns Tuesday night.

In Clallam County, a charter amendment that would remove coroner duties from the elected prosecuting attorney passed by significant margin of 81.6 percent to 18.4 percent. There were 10,247 votes for the measure and 2,304 votes rejecting it.

However, a levy lid lift that would go to Clallam County to pay for essential public services was being rejected by voters 58.7 percent to 41.3 percent. There were 7,646 votes against the levy lid lift and 5,370 votes in support.

In Jefferson County, a sales and use tax in unincorporated county for use by a Transporation Benefit District was passing 64.6 percent (3,677 votes) to 35.4 percent (2,016 votes).

Meanwhile, a statewide measure that would allow funds in the state’s long-term care fund to be invested was passing. There were 475,967 votes approving the measure (57.8 percent) and 348,079 votes rejecting it (42.2 percent). In Clallam County, 6,195 votes were approving it (50.5 percent) and 6,087 were rejecting it, while in Jefferson County, 5,067 votes were approving it (58.7 percent) and 3,572 votes were rejecting it (41.4 percent).
