FORKS — A NOAA Fisheries biologist will discuss working with beavers to restore salmon habitat during Evening Talks at 7 p.m. Tuesday.
The free presentation will be in the Hemlock Forest Room at the Olympic Natural Resources Center, 1455 S. Forks Ave., Forks.
Refreshments will be served, and a potluck of favorite desserts is encouraged.
Michael M. Pollock, a research fish biologist from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), will talk about his research findings on how beaver dams could promote enough aggradation to reverse channel incision and improve the ecosystem for fish species.
As an ecosystem analyst, Pollock has been studying forest, stream and wetland ecosystems for over a decade.
His studies include the influence of disturbance and productivity on biodiversity patterns in riparian corridors, the influence of beaver habitat on coho smolt production and ecosystem function, the historical patterns of riparian forest conditions in the Pacific Northwest and the importance of riparian forest to maintain stream habitat.
Evening Talks at ONRC are funded through the Rosmond Forestry Education Fund.
