SEQUIM — The Clallam Conservation District staff will lead field trips on native plants from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. April 19 and April 23 at the Dungeness Recreation Area.
Participants will learn to identify more than 30 native trees and shrubs as well as their requirements, habitat qualities, and ornamental attributes.

Conservation workshop
The district also will offer a free water-conservation workshop from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. April 19 in the Dungeness River Audubon Center at Railroad Bridge Park in Sequim.
Staff will present tips on landscaping to survive the drought as well as how to use rain barrels to water gardens and flower beds.
Participants will receive $5 off the purchase of a 55-gallon rain barrel for which orders will be taken through April 15.

The conservation district is looking for volunteers to help construct and distribute the barrels in late April and early May at the Clallam County Fairgrounds. To volunteer, call 360-452-1912, Ext. 109.
Streamkeepers
Training will start in June for Streamkeepers, the volunteer corps that measures the health of Clallam County watersheds. Classes will comprise several weeknight meetings and a Saturday field day.
