PORT TOWNSEND — United Good Neighbors of Jefferson County will host community service projects during its seventh annual Day of Caring on Saturday.
Saturday’s events will kick off the organization’s Month of Caring campaign.
Volunteers for Saturday’s projects will meet at 9 a.m. at the Mountain View gym, 1919 Blaine St. Volunteers will check in and be directed to their sites to begin.
One of the projects has already begun.
The Jefferson Marine Resources Committee and Washington State University is creating rain gardens.
One was made Wednesday in Port Hadlock; another in Chetzemoka Park was begun Thursday and will be completed today.

Among projects specifically on Saturday are:
• COAST Winter Shelter — The Community Outreach Association Shelter Team (COAST) operates a winter shelter at the American Legion Hall, 209 Monroe St., in Port Townsend.
Four to eight volunteers are needed to help redo the laundry room and storage unit at the winter shelter.

• Jefferson Land Trust — The land trust seeks 15 volunteers to help build six park benches in Port Townsend.
No experience is necessary.

• Jumping Mouse Children’s Center — Jumping Mouse seeks four volunteers to weed the garden and wash the windows at the facility at 1809 Sheridan St.

• Kul Kah Han Native Plant Garden — Six volunteers are sought to help care for the native plant garden and prepare for the fall plant sale.
Volunteers will weed, spread wood chips, cut back dried plant tops and make seedling labels. They are urged to bring gloves. Tools will be provided.

On Monday, the Farmers Market of Jefferson County will move its offices and could use eight volunteers to help.

On Oct. 22, the Admiralty Audubon Society plans to plant young Shore Pine and Garry Oak in the Decatur right of way on the northeast side of Kah Tai Lagoon Nature Park.
The goal is to improve habitat in the “Duck Heaven” corner of the park, according to UGN.
Twelve volunteers are sought. They are asked to bring work gloves and shovels, as well as buckets if they have them.
Refreshments will be provided. Volunteers will park on 19th Street west of the Kearney Street intersection.

In October, Dove House Advocacy Services could use 15 volunteers to help with several projects.
The group plans to build a little free library, a mini pantry and two picnic tables for the emergency shelter.
Carpentry skills will be appreciated but are not required.
