Commissioners to hear residents in Chimacum

CHIMACUM — The Jefferson County commissioners’ special meeting today has been moved from Port Hadlock to Chimacum Fire Station.

This is the second of a six-part series of community outreach by commissioners, so they can hear what specific issues there are in different parts of the county.

The meeting was originally planned to happen at the Washington State University Extension in Port Hadlock but was moved to Chimacum Fire Station due to a concern that there would not be enough seats to accommodate the large crowd the commission expects.

The meeting will start at 6 p.m. at the fire station at 9193 Rhody Drive and is expected to adjourn by 8 p.m.

The agenda has two pre-planned discussions. Time also has been allotted for community members to bring up other issues.

County Public Works Director Monte Reinders will present information on the Tri-Area Sewer Project, said Chair Kate Dean.

After the presentation, the public will have the opportunity to ask further questions and participate in a round-robin discussion of it and the impact it will have on the community, Dean said.

The other pre-planned discussion is about the planned extension of the Olympic Discovery Trail to Anderson Lake State Park, Dean said.

The extension has been approved. Now the commission is researching funding and plans to build it, Dean said.

The next special meeting in the series will be Aug. 21 at the Gardiner Community Center at 980 Old Gardiner Road.

All meetings for the community outreach series start at 6 p.m.
