SEQUIM — Comedian Jay Sierra is still struggling with a severe case of pancreatitis — but is looking forward to getting back on stage as soon as he is well enough.

The Sequim resident spent the entire months of May and June as well as part of April in the intensive care unit at Seattle’s Harborview Medical Center after the pancreatitis almost claimed his life.

Sierra was transferred earlier this month to a nursing facility in Sequim to continue his recovery.

However, after just two days, Sierra began vomiting blood and was sent on a medical helicopter back to Harborview.

In telephone interviews from his hospital bed last Friday and Tuesday, Sierra said that he was ready to come home and hoped to be discharged to the nursing facility in a few days.

“I want everybody to know that I thank them for all their prayers and all their kind thoughts and the help they’ve given my family,” he said.

Although he sounded weak, the man known for his energy in local community stage productions and for giving an upbeat, positive comedy act, said he was looking forward to again being active in the community.

“I can’t wait to get back home and get back on stage,” he said.

When discharged from Harborview, he will go to Avamere Olympic Rehabilitation of Sequim, 1000 S. Fifth Ave., Sequim.

Suggested visitation hours at the facility are between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m.

A fund to assist the family with expenses was established at First Federal.

Donations can be made at any branch.
