Coloring Outside the Library aims to brighten a Monday

PORT ANGELES — A brew and a coloring book: What more could a person want?

The North Olympic Library System — which oversees public libraries in Port Angeles, Sequim, Forks and Clallam Bay — will present “Coloring Outside the Library” at 6:30 p.m. Monday at Barhop Brewing and Taproom, 124 W. Railroad Ave. in Port Angeles.

Adults 21 and older are invited to unwind with a cold beverage and a coloring book during an informal hour of creativity.

The library system will provide all artistic materials and coloring books free of charge. Food and drink will not be provided free but are available for purchase.

A plethora of designs for every mood will be available, said Paige Belfry, customer service specialist at the Port Angeles Library, in a news release.

Love-themed, colorable bookmarks will be provided at this event timed to be before Valentine’s Day.

Coloring isn’t just for kids, Belfry said.

“Adult coloring books flooded bookstore shelves in 2016, causing many to wonder what all the fuss was about. Is this yet another new trend soon to be forgotten, or is coloring for adults here to stay?” Belfry said.

“The most striking stories come from individuals who have suffered loss and found peace while immersed in the pages of a coloring book,” she added.

”Coloring can be as mindful, artistic, healing or social as you choose; whatever the experience you’re looking for, coloring can be one small step toward finding it.”

The program is supported by the Port Angeles Friends of the Library.
