VANCOUVER, Wash. — The Peninsula College men’s soccer team’s defense of its first NWAACC championship continued its torrid start Saturday.
The Pirates ripped off their third straight win to begin the year with a 2-0 victory at NWAACC power Clark College on Saturday.
Miguel Gonzalez netted his fourth goal of the season — putting him one goal away from tying the school’s career record of 20 — and dished out an assist as the Pirates remained unbeaten at 3-0-0 overall.
“This was a great win for us,” Pirates men’s soccer coach Andrew Chapman said. “Clark is a very good team, and traveling to Vancouver and playing them on their field is tough.”
Gonzalez scored his goal in the very first minute of Saturday’s game.
The Pirates held onto their slim lead until the 78th minute, when Sean Prizeman gave them a cushion with a score off a Gonzalez assist.
Goalkeeper Jared Wilson recorded his first shutout of season for the Pirates, who have actually won four straight matches since losing a scrimmage to the University of Victoria. That includes a 3-0 scrimmage win against Trinity Lutheran.
The Pirates have outscored opponents 12-2 during that run.
Peninsula next hosts Pierce on Wednesday at 1 p.m.

Peninsula 2, Clark 1
VANCOUVER, Wash. — Shelby Solomon scored a goal in the 78th minute as the Pirates escaped with their first win of the season Saturday afternoon.
Solomon scored the goal off a corner kick cross from Kelsie Ng, answering an equalizer from Clark six minutes earlier.
“We played well but gave up another sloppy goal,” Pirate women’s soccer coach Kanyon Anderson said.
“It was good to get our first win of the season. Good to get the win but we know we could be 3-0 instead of 1-1-1 in nonleague.”
Carolina Flores put the Pirates on the scoreboard in the 47th minute off an assist from Sydney Bullington.
The Pirates next play at Warner Pacific (Lacey) on Saturday.
