PORT ANGELES — The Port of Port Angeles plans to begin replacing sections of the MV Coho ferry terminal dock late next year, said Executive Director Jeff Robb.
The project would last up to two years and would cost between $4 million and $8 million, depending on how much financing can be secured.
At minimum, pilings and 2,415 square feet of dock on the west side of the terminal at 101 E. Railroad Ave. in Port Angeles will be replaced and another 1,315 square feet of dock added.
The port is seeking a permit from the city to do that and replace 2,319 square feet of dock on the east side, add another 1,206 square feet of dock and replace the “turning knuckle” pilings for the ferry, which makes daily round trips between Port Angeles and Victoria.
The city Planning Commission will hold a public hearing on the permit application June 22.
The commission meets at 6 p.m. at 321 E. Fifth St.
Robb said the dock, which is about 50 years old, has come to the “end of its useful life.”
He said the project would likely be covered through bonds, with Black Ball Ferry Line repaying the port through its lease payments.
Construction would be limited to between September and January or February, Robb said, in order to limit the impact to fish.
