DABOB BAY — Coast Guard Maritime Force Protection Unit Bangor will conduct an exercise from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 22, on Dabob Bay near the Hood Canal Bridge, according to a news release.
Increased levels of activity will be noticed during the exercise. Training involving the use of blank ammunition will be visible and audible to the public. No live fire will be used during the exercise. U.S. Coast Guard and U.S. Navy security boats will be on-site.
The Coast Guard has established a 500-yard safety zone extending from the exercise area.
Mariners are advised to use caution by reducing speed, establishing a safe distance from the area and maintaining a no-wake zone when transiting.
A broadcast notice to mariners will be transmitted before, during and at the completion of the exercise.
Training is subject to change due to operational requirements.
The Coast Guard routinely conducts security exercises to ensure readiness and proficiency, the release states.
