OLYMPIC NATIONAL PARK — An injured hiker was medevaced from Olympic National Park near Hoh after he fell about 100 feet, the Coast Guard said.
At 5:30 p.m. Sunday, watchstanders at Sector Puget Sound were notified of the fallen hiker and directed an aircrew of a MH-65 Dolphin rescue helicopter from Coast Guard Air Station Port Angeles to respond.
The aircrew hoisted the hiker shortly after 7 p.m. and transported him to the Olympic Medical Center in Port Angeles, a Coast Guard press release said.
The middle-aged hiker was reportedly responsive and in stable condition upon arrival at OMC Sunday night, the press release said.
The Coast Guard encourages mariners and hikers to be aware of their surroundings at all times and that people maintain a reliable means of communication so emergency responders can be notified in case of emergency, the press release said.
