Climate Change Town Hall set Saturday

PORT TOWNSEND — The second Climate Change Town Hall sponsored by the Transportation Lab of Local 20/20 is set from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturday.

The free town hall will be at the Friends Meeting House, 1841 Sheridan in Port Townsend.

More than 40 people took part in the first town hall April 13, said Dave Thielk, a member of Transportation Lab, in a press release.

He said that expected outcomes for this next meeting, which is building on input received at the first town hall, are:

• Develop a focused, coherent carbon reduction policy statement that will address community carbon reduction significantly, is doable, and can be implemented reasonably quickly.

• Establish related action steps that take the carbon reduction policy forward.

• Take first steps to increase the local political will to make effective carbon reduction changes quickly.

“Transportation in Jefferson County contributes at least 40 percent of the carbon emissions here,” Thielk said.

“Any honest solution to address the climate chaos we’re experiencing must include a significant reduction in transportation’s 40 percent contributions,” he continued.

Chance to contribute

Those who attend the forum on Saturday will help to develop action to prod local changes.

”This forum will include little talk and much interaction with others who share this area of interest.

“What we need of you, and other leaders of groups who have an interconnected goal, is to become part of a multi-solving presentation for City Council and county commission,” Thielk said.
