SEQUIM — Richard Stumbaugh, Clallam County veterans assistant for two years, has received an honorable mention for outstanding service to veterans in 2005.
A letter accompanying the certificate thanked him “for your exemplary efforts on their behalf.”‘
“Veterans advocates have long had a reputation for taking care of their own, and your efforts are a testimony of this,” the letter continued.
“Your empathy and the unselfish fashion in which you give time, resources and devotion serves as an example of inspiration for all of us.”
The Oct. 14 letter was signed by John E. Lee, director of the Washington Department of Veterans Affairs, and William Schrier, chairman of the Veterans Affairs Advisory Committee.
Stumbaugh spent four years as a flight simulator technician in the Air Force and 23 years as a lead seaman/boatswain in the Army Reserve’s 805th Transportation Detachment.
During that time he also worked as an electrician for Olympic National Park.
