PORT ANGELES — Clallam County sheriff’s candidates Joe Martin and Soeren Poulsen sparred over deputies, budgets and drugs during a forum Wednesday evening at the Clallam County Courthouse.
The third candidate in the race, Lonnie Steele of Joyce, did not show up for the debate despite confirming that he would be there.
His absence left Poulsen and Martin, the appointed sheriff, plenty of time to trade perspectives on issues affecting voters as they approach the Sept. 14 primary election.
Wednesday’s hour-long forum, hosted by Peninsula News Network anchor Dennis Bragg, Peninsula Daily News Executive Editor Rex Wilson and PDN Commentary Page Editor Paul Gottlieb, will be cablecast at 7 p.m. tonight on Wave Broadband channel 3 and two more times to be announced, Bragg said.
An audience of about 60 people observed Wednesday’s forum.
