PORT ANGELES – Clallam Transit System saw a 10 percent increase to 856,171 in its fixed route ridership during 2006.
CTS’ total boardings, which include Paratransit, charters or special events and van pools as well as fixed routes, increased by 9 percent to 1,016,807 passengers in 2006, said Terry Weed, Clallam Transit System general manager, on Friday.
Weed said although the agency doesn’t do any scientific ridership analysis, he figures high fuel prices are the primary reason for the ridership increase in 2006.
Another factor probably is general economic conditions and the increasing cost of living, he said.
Clallam Transit also has done some marketing to increase ridership, Weed said.
Some riders have commented that they like the cleaner diesel fuel, which makes for a better passenger environment, he said.
