PORT ANGELES — Clallam County property owners can expect to find their 2010 tax statements in the mailbox this week.
The Clallam County Treasurer’s Office, which typically mails statements in mid-February, said the tax bills were mailed from Spokane on Monday.
Clallam is one of about a dozen counties in the state that outsources property tax mailings to Master’s Touch LLC of Spokane to save costs.
Teresa Marchi, Clallam County deputy treasurer, said the two-week delay was caused by a new computer program that changed business procedures in the office. The computer overhaul was the first major change in 30 years.
Additionally, property assessments from the Assessor’s Office were a week behind schedule.
“That put us a little bit behind,” Marchi explained.
The county sends about 30,000 tax statements every year. Marchi said she did not know the exact number of 2010 statements that were mailed on Monday.
Clallam County began contracting with Master’s Touch last year.
“It went very smoothly,” Marchi said.
She said the company uses sophisticated mailing equipment and gets good bulk mail rates.
Tax statements are available online at www.clallam.net.
The Jefferson County Treasurer’s Office mailed tax statements on Feb. 10.
The statewide due date for at least half of 2010 property tax is April 30.
