CARLSBORG — One large chain store is scheduled to open here in September, while another is getting ready to close.
On Wednesday, workers were painting the new Big 5 Sporting Goods building in preparation for a Sept. 28 opening at the store location near the intersection of Hook Road and U.S. Highway 101.
A few hundred feet away, a sign proclaims United Furniture Warehouse, 232 Valley Center Place, is closing.
The discount furniture chain has announced the closure of a number of Pacific Northwest locations, including Carlsborg’s, on recent television commercials.
No company officials were available Wednesday to discuss the closure and the store was closed, as it always is on Wednesday.
United Furniture Warehouse has been in Carlsborg for about five years. The building is owned by a private investor living elsewhere.
