Clallam County public school districts are preparing to open for the 2012-2013 school year with students returning for such end-of-summer activities as sports camps and practices, marching band camps, class registrations and high school freshman orientations.
High school football practices begin today.
On Monday, other fall sports will hold their first practices.
All schools are scheduled to start in the first week of September, after Labor Day.
Port Angeles schools
The first day of classes for all but kindergarten students in the Port Angeles School District will be Tuesday, Sept. 4.
Kindergarten orientation will be Sept. 4-5, and the first day of school for kindergarteners will be Sept. 6.
School building offices will reopen today, and will take new kindergarten registrations.
Donated supplies collected during the summer will be distributed at the annual Back to School Event from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, at Jefferson Elementary School, 218 E. 12th St.
“It’s for students who might need a hand-up to start the school year,” said Tina Smith-O’Hara, spokeswoman for the school district.
Proof of income is not required, she said.
Students and their parents also are offered free barbecue, an immunization clinic and dental checkups from the SmileMobile; information booths for community youth organizations will be available.
Port Angeles High School freshman welcome night will be at 7 p.m. Aug. 22, and freshman orientation, known as Freshman Rider Day will be from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Aug. 29.
Seniors will receive their schedules Monday, juniors on Tuesday, sophomores on Aug. 22 and freshmen on Aug. 23.
Lincoln High School registration is August 21-23, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Middle schools
Stevens Middle School students will get their schedules and take school portraits on Aug. 22.
Students in the seventh grade with names beginning with A-L can get their schedules from 8:30 a.m. to 10 a.m., and those with names starting M-Z from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.
Students in the eighth grade with names beginning with A-L can get their schedules from 12:30 p.m. to 2 p.m., and those with names starting M-Z from 2 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.
Elementary school class lists will be posted on each school’s front doors on Aug. 23.

Sequim
The first day of classes at Sequim School District will be Wednesday, Sept. 5.
The Sequim High School main offices at 601 N. Sequim Ave., are open now for new registrations.
Sequim High School’s Wolf Pack Days are planned Thursday and Friday. Students can pick up their schedules, take school portraits, and complete paperwork for the 2012-13 school year.
On Thursday, seniors and juniors will register from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m., and sophomores will register from noon to 3 p.m.
On Friday, freshman hours are from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. for students with last names beginning with A-L, and from noon to 3 p.m. for those with last names beginning with M-Z.
Sequim Middle School’s office will reopen Monday.
The school’s Timberwolf Days will be from 2:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Aug. 22-23.
Students with last names beginning with A-K can get their schedules on Aug. 22, and those with last names beginning with L-Z on Aug. 23.
They can come at any time during the afternoon to pick up schedules and pay any class fees, as well as purchase Associated Student Body cards, yearbooks, physical education uniforms and have individual school photographs taken.
An immunization clinic is planned. Tdap, the booster that protects against whooping cough, is required for all incoming sixth-through-11th graders.
Parental permission slips are available at sequim.k12.wa.us under “Health Services.”
A sixth-grade orientation called Where Everybody Belongs — or WEB — is set from 7:50 a.m. to noon Sept. 4.
Eighth-graders will mentor sixth-grade students, Assistant Principal Scott Harker said.
“The WEB program is designed to ease the transition from elementary school to middle school,” Harker said.
Elementary schools
Sequim elementary school offices will reopen Aug. 22, and open houses will be held from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m., Sept. 4 at Greywolf Elementary and Helen Haller Elementary for students to meet their teachers and drop off school supplies.
Elementary student class assignments were printed on student report cards and mailed to parents in June.

Crescent school
The first day of classes at Crescent School District will be Tuesday, Sept. 4.
Returning students already have their schedules and class assignments, Superintendent Clayton Mork said.
The district office is open for new registrations as of today, Mork said.
A freshman orientation barbecue has been tentatively scheduled for the afternoon of Aug. 30, he said.

Quillayute Valley schools
The first day of classes at Quillayute Valley School District will be Thursday, Sept. 6.
Forks High School students can pick up their schedules Aug. 27-31, at the school at 261 S. Spartan Ave.
Pre-registration for new students of all grades will be held simultaneously at the district office, 411 S. Spartan Ave, said Diana Reaume, district superintendent.
Freshman orientation will take place from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Sept. 4 at the Spartan gymnasium.
Middle school students will receive their class schedules in the mail, while elementary students will personal letters from their teachers, Reaume said.

Cape Flattery schools
The first day of classes at Cape Flattery School District will be Thursday, Sept. 6.
Neah Bay High School students can register and receive their class schedules Aug. 27-28.
Seniors are scheduled from 9 a.m. to noon and juniors from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Aug. 27.
Sophomores are set from 9 a.m. to noon and freshmen from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Aug. 28
Neah Bay Junior High School registration will be from 9 a.m. to noon and from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Aug. 30.
Neah Bay sixth grade orientation will begin at 6 p.m., Aug. 30, at Neah Bay School.
Neah Bay Alternative Program registration will be from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Aug. 31, by appointment.
Clallam Bay High School students will receive their class schedules from 9 a.m. to noon Aug. 20-21.
Elementary students already have received their class assignments, Superintendent Kandy Ritter said.
