Clallam County public schools are offering a multitude of back-to-school events leading up to the first day of the 2014-15 school year.
Port Angeles and Crescent schools will open their doors to students Tuesday, Sept. 2, followed by Sequim schools Wednesday, Sept. 3, and Quillayute Valley and Cape Flattery schools Thursday, Sept. 4.
Several events occur this week.
The 2014-15 school year will usher in a new elementary school highly capable program at Port Angeles’ Roosevelt Elementary School, a complete reorganization of pre-kindergarten-though-eighth-grade education at Forks schools and the first year of mandated Common Core standards taught in all Washington state classrooms.
Each district will be accepting new enrollments at the district offices before school offices open and at schools after school staff return from summer break.
For kindergarten enrollment, children must be 5 years old before Sept. 1. Parents or guardians are asked to provide a birth certificate and immunization record for new student registration.
Applications for free and reduced-price school lunches will be available at most schools.
A full listing of eligibility requirements, including earnings per family members, is available at school or district offices.
Port Angeles
Port Angeles School District offices, 304 E. Park Ave., are open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday for enrollment questions.
Port Angeles High School offices at 304 E. Park Ave. are open daily for new student enrollment; other school offices will open Monday .
While most students will start school Sept. 2, kindergarten students will attend orientation sessions Sept. 2-4. The first day of kindergarten class will be Sept. 5
Giveaways
The annual Port Angeles School District Back to School Event will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at Jefferson Elementary, 218 E. 12th St.
School supplies will be provided free to all students in need, the SmileMobile will schedule exams, and all participants can take part in a free barbecue lunch sponsored by Sodexo.
Port Angeles High School students will receive their schedules, take school photos, order yearbooks and receive student identification cards, parking passes and locker assignments this week.
Registration days are scheduled by class: seniors, Monday; juniors, Tuesday; sophomores, Wednesday; and freshmen, Thursday, at the school, 304 E. Park Ave.
Freshmen will be welcomed during Freshman Rider Day, with activities and basic campus orientation from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Aug. 29.
Lincoln High School, 924 W. Ninth St., will hold open registrations from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday through Friday.
Stevens Middle School, 1139 W. 14th St., will hold student registration Thursday.
Seventh-grade students whose last name begins with A-L will register from 8:30 a.m. to 10 a.m.
Those whose last name begins with M-Z will register from 10 a.m. through 11:30 a.m.
Eighth-grade students whose last name begins with A-L will register from 12:30 p.m. to 2 p.m.
Those whose last name begins with M-Z will register from 2 p.m. through 3:30 p.m.
Roosevelt, Hamilton, Franklin and Dry Creek elementary school class lists will be posted at school entrances Wednesday, and Jefferson’s class lists will be posted Friday.
Sequim schools
The Sequim School District offices at 503 N. Sequim Ave. and school offices are open for new student enrollment from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday.
Sequim High School, 601 N. Sequim Ave., is open daily, and the Sequim Middle School office at 301 W. Hendrickson Road opens Monday.
Hellen Haller Elementary’s office at 350 W. Fir St. opens Wednesday, and the Greywolf Elementary office at 171 Carlsborg Road opens Aug. 25.
Back-to-school fair
A Back to School Fair for children and students from birth to age 18 will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Aug. 23 at the Sequim unit of the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Olympic Peninsula, 400 W. Fir St.
Fair activities include free books, school supplies, haircuts, face painting and games. Hot dogs will be provided by Sodexo.
Sequim High School’s new student orientation will begin at 9 a.m. Tuesday at the high school library, 601. N. Sequim Ave.
The school will register students Thursday and Friday.
Hours for juniors and seniors will be from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. Thursday, while sophomore registration hours are from noon to 3 p.m. that day
Freshmen with last names beginning with the letters A-K will be from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. Friday, while hours for freshmen with names starting with L-Z will be from noon to 3 p.m. that day
Sequim High’s band camp will be held from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. Aug. 26-27 in the high school band room.
Freshmen band members should arrive at 2:30 p.m. Aug. 26.
Freshman orientation will be from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sept. 2 in the gym.
Sequim Middle School will conduct sixth-grade and new student orientation at 6:30 p.m. Monday in the gym.
Continuing middle school students will receive their schedules and complete other new school year paperwork at Timberwolf Days on Tuesday and Wednesday.
Students whose last names start with letters A through K are scheduled for 2:30 p.m. through 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, and letters L through Z from 2:30 p.m. though 6:30 p.m. Wednesday.
The sixth-grade “WEB” orientation and barbecue will be held from 7:50 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Sept. 2 at Sequim Middle School.
Helen Haller and Greywolf elementary schools will hold open houses from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Sept. 2.
Forks
The Quillayute Valley School District offices at 411 S. Spartan Ave. will open from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Aug. 25 for new student enrollment.
Back-to-School Night at Forks Elementary, 301 S. Elderberry Ave., will be at 6 p.m. Sept. 3 in the school cafeteria.
The first day of preschool will be Sept. 4. Kindergarten students will have orientation Sept. 4-5.
Cape Flattery
Cape Flattery School District offices are open for new student enrollment at 13-193 state Highway 112.
Clallam Bay School, 16933 state Highway 112, has completed registration. The school is open for new student enrollment and for those who missed registration on weekdays.
Neah Bay High School will register students Aug. 26-27 at the Neah Bay High School commons, 3560 Deer St.
On Aug. 26, seniors will register from 9 a.m. to noon, and juniors from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.
On Aug. 27, sophomores will register from 9 a.m. to noon, and freshmen from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.
Alternative education students will schedule individual meetings with instructors.
Markishtum Middle School in Neah Bay will register students Aug. 28. Sixth-grade students and parents will meet at 9 a.m.
Seventh- and eighth-grade students will register from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.
Back to School Night will be held from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Sept. 3.
Crescent School
Class supply lists for Joyce’s Crescent School for grades kindergarten through eighth grade are on the district website, www.crescentschooldistrict.org.
The high school freshman orientation and barbecue will be held at 5 p.m. Aug. 28 in the school cafetorium, 50350 state Highway 112.
Students will receive their first-day packet Sept. 2 in their first period class.
