PORT ANGELES — In the only contested race on the primary ballot, incumbent Hugh Haffner held a commanding lead over challengers Bill Roberds and Terry Roth — who were separated by only 46 votes — in the contest for Clallam County Public Utility District 2 commissioner.
The top two vote-getters in the primary will advance to the Nov. 5 general election ballot.
More mail-in ballots will be counted Friday. It is not known how many votes from PUD users are still outstanding.
Tuesday night’s returns showed Haffner, an accountant and lawyer, with 1,381 votes, or 46.2 percent of the vote counted so far.
Roberds, a utility contractor, had 826 votes, or 27.6 percent.
Roth, general manager of Northwest Duty Free Stores, was close behind with 780 votes, or 26.1 percent.
