Clallam PUD sends crew to Gig Harbor

PORT ANGELES — The Clallam County Public Utility District has sent a crew of four and three vehicles to assist Peninsula Light Co. in Gig Harbor with power restoration.

Peninsula Light, which had about 3,000 customers without power as of about 11 a.m. Friday, made the request as part of a mutual-aid agreement.

“This is common in the industry when neighboring utilities are experiencing large outages,” said Doug Nass, PUD general manager.

“The storm this week caused few issues for Clallam PUD, but other areas of Western Washington were not so fortunate.”

PUD spokesman Mike Howe said Friday he didn’t know how long the crew would be needed there.

Clallam PUD remained prepared to handle outages locally.

Ken Haman, Operations Superintendent, said

“Anytime we get a request for mutual-aid assistance, we first and foremost evaluate the PUD’s current and projected situation,” said Ken Haman, operations superintendent.

“Because we fared well this past week, we are able to assist Peninsula Light and still remain prepared to address any issues we might experience.”

A mutual-aid agreement is a written agreement between agencies in which they agree to assist each other on request by furnishing personnel and equipment if possible.

Costs associated with assistance are reimbursed by the agency receiving the assistance.
