Clallam prosecutor to seek third term

PORT ANGELES — Deborah Kelly, Clallam County’s prosecuting attorney, will seek a third four-year term this fall.

She announced her intention to seek re-election in a brief appearance at the Clallam County Republican Party’s Lincoln Day fundraising dinner on Friday.

Prosecuting attorney is a partisan office, and Kelly is a Republican.

She was first elected in 2002, defeating incumbent Chris Shea, a Democrat.

She was re-elected in 2006 when she ran unopposed.

Other elections to be held

Other Clallam County officials up for re-election this fall are Democrat Mike Doherty, who holds one of the three partisan county commissioner positions; Pamela Rushton, assessor; Patty Rosand, auditor; John Miller, community development director; Bill Benedict, sheriff; and Judith Scott, treasurer, all nonpartisan officeholders.

In addition, Rick Porter, District Court 1 judge, Erik Rohrer, District Court 2 judge, and Will Purser, one of the three Clallam County Public Utility District commissioners, are up for election this fall.

Also up for re-election are two of the North Olympic Peninsula’s representatives in the state Legislature, Rep. Kevin Van De Wege, D-Sequim, and Rep. Lynn Kessler, D-Hoquiam, the House majority leader.

The Peninsula’s third representative, state Sen. Jim Hargrove, D-Hoquiam, will face re-election in 2012.

This year’s candidate filing period is June 7-11.

The primary election is Aug. 17. The general election is Nov. 2.
