PORT ANGELES — Joe Martin’s teal-green collared shirt still reads “undersheriff.”
He continues to drive his patrol car, rather than upgrade to a truck like his predecessor drove and has no plans to switch his radio c call number from “101” to “100,” the number former Sheriff Joe Hawe used.
“Nothing much changes,” Martin said from his new and larger office Friday in the basement of the Clallam County Courthouse.
But less than a week after being appointed Clallam County sheriff, Martin, 69, does have plans to tighten department spending and add deputies while continuing the same administrative duties he had as undersheriff under Hawe.
“This is the working sheriff talking now,” Martin said. “I don’t just go to meetings and take pictures.”
