Clallam, Jefferson open house blitz this weekend

A massive open house effort across the North Olympic Peninsula is scheduled Saturday and Sunday, and a guide to the homes will appear in Friday’s editions of the Peninsula Daily News.

There will be open houses at more than 400 homes that are for sale across the Peninsula — about 200 in Clallam County and another 200 in Jefferson County.

The homes will be open for four hours each day, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.

Real estate agents, some accompanied by mortgage brokers, will at the open houses to answer questions.

“The activities will help those thinking about buying a home take advantage of unique home market factors and the 2009 federal first-time home buyer tax credit [up to $8,000] set to expire Nov. 30,” said Eileen Schmitz, a Port Angeles Association of Realtors board member and chairwoman of the Clallam open house event.

Pullout section

Friday’s pullout section in the PDN will detail the open house campaign and list homes that will be participating.

The two-day event — Realtors Statewide Open House, June 27-28 — is sponsored by the Washington Association of Realtors. It is the first of its kind in Washington state.

It addition to home sellers and real estate agents on the North Olympic Peninsula, it will involve 30 other Realtor associations covering more than 60 cities across the state.

‘Prime time’

“This weekend will be a prime time for those who want to see the variety of homes that are out there, even if they are just window shopping,” said Daphne Eshom, president of the Port Angeles Association of Realtors.

“For buyers who’ve been on the sidelines and have good jobs, the market has never looked more favorable.”

Agreeing with her is Meyer:

“That first-time home buyer tax credit is invaluable for first-time home buyers.

“Qualified, first-time home buyers have a lot going for them right now.

“There is not much that should hold them back.

“I don’t know how it could be a better time to start on the road to home ownership.”
