PORT ANGELES — A 39-year-old Clallam County jail inmate who attempted suicide in his jail cell on May 18 has died, the Clallam County Sheriff’s Office said Tuesday.
Andrew Staritzky of Port Angeles attempted suicide by strangulating himself, the sheriff’s office said in a news release.
He was listed in critical but stable condition at Harborview Medical Center in Seattle hours after the incident.
The Sheriff’s Office said he died after being taken off life support
Jail staff found the man unresponsive and without a pulse at 5:39 a.m. after responding to shouts from several other inmates.
Staff administered cardiopulmonary resuscitation. Medics arrived five minutes later. They continued CPR, and a pulse was found.
Staritzky was taken to Olympic Medical Center before being transferred to Harborview.
An investigation is being managed by the Port Angeles Police Department and the Major Incident Response Team.
The Sheriff’s Office said investigators are waiting for the results of an autopsy. Once the results are released, the entire case will be forwarded to the Sheriff’s Office.
Staritzky was booked into jail May 7 for investigation of harassment and making threats to kill, the news release said.
