Shoppers hit the stores en masse across Clallam County Friday and Saturday looking for that special gift for that special someone.
With the heavy turnout at places like Wal-Mart in Port Angeles and Big 5 Sporting Goods in Carlsborg, merchants say the holiday shopping season is off to a good start.
Shoes are selling fast this weekend as are toys and scooters, Big 5 cashier Sam O”Dell said Saturday.
On Friday — the day after Thanksgiving and traditionally the busiest shopping day of the year — it was difficult to find a parking space at the new Carlsborg store, 171 Valley Center Place.
Shoppers crowded the store, but “people seem to be pretty happy,” O’Dell said Saturday.
Business was booming in Port Angeles as well, Wal-Mart Assistant Manager Colleen Murphy said Saturday.
“When people really start shopping for Christmas is the day after Thanksgiving,” she said.
