State, federal and Lower Elwha Klallam tribal officials plan to sign an agreement today that leads to fully restarting construction of the state Department of Transportation’s graving yard in Port Angeles.
The signing on the Elwha reservation will culminate six months of negotiations on how to restart construction of the onshore dry dock for Hood Canal Bridge components while handling Native American skeletal remains and artifacts found on the 22-acre waterfront site.
Officials from each agency will sign the agreement in a private meeting.
The document will contain details of construction practices and how items of archaeological interest found on the site will be treated.
