PORT ANGELES — Firefighters from Clallam 2 Fire-Rescue have been mobilized as part of a South Puget Sound Strike Team to fight the Silver Lake Fire near Cheney.
The fire broke out Monday afternoon and quickly threatened nearby homes and consumed one out-building, said Chief Sam Phillips of Clallam 2 Fire Rescue.
Media reports Tuesday are that the fire was estimated at about 100 acres and was about 20 percent contained, with firefighters saying that the blaze is no longer growing.
Level 2 evacuation notices — meaning residents should be ready to leave quickly — remain in place for about 30 homes.
Firefighters Sam Orr, Steve Bentley and Tyler Reid were dispatched Monday night and joined other engines and crews from Woodinville Fire, Seattle Fire, King County Fire District 44, South Kitsap Fire Rescue, Mason County Fire and Eastside Fire & Rescue.
Four strike teams have been assigned by the state fire marshal’s office to assist local fire districts and the state Department of Natural Resources.
Officials are investigating the cause of the fire.
