PORT ANGELES — Clallam County Public Utility District commissioner Ted Simpson has won re-election to another six-year term based on the final vote tally from the Nov. 7 election.
Friday’s count of the final 4,111 ballots showed Simpson — who has held the office since 1984 — with 9,837 votes and challenger Cindy Kelly with 9,534.
“I’m pleased with the results. That’s what I hoped to do,” Simpson said Saturday.
“It’s been a long campaign and then a long count.
“All the other issues were pretty decisive, but this one kind of dragged out a little longer,” he said.
Kelly said she appreciated the opportunity to educate the public about public utility districts and what they do.
“Congratulations to Ted. The campaign gave me the opportunity to meet some really wonderful people and educate people about PUDs,” Kelly said on Saturday.
“Thanks to the people who encouraged me to take this journey and especially to the voters and my committee for their support and dedication.
“My goal was to get people collaborating and working together for the betterment of the county and to educate the voters,” she said.
None of the other races were affected by Friday’s final tally.
The election will be certified on Nov. 28.
