PORT ANGELES — Attendance was down about 700 people from last year for the first two days of the Clallam County Fair, but final overall attendance figures haven’t been tabulated yet.
A total of 7,550 people passed through the gates on Thursday, followed by 8,273 on Friday, compared to last year’s figures of 8,429 and 8,104, respectively.
However, those attendance figures could receive a boost from the weekend fair-goers, including those who sold out the Demolition Derby five hours prior to its 7 p.m. start.
Eager derby fans were putting down blankets to save seats at grandstand immediately after the rodeo ended earlier in the afternoon.
The weather cooperated during all four days this year, a change from last year’s drab conditions during the first two days.
The fair’s final day featured the demolition derby, National Pro Rodeo Association finals and the Country Showdown music competition.
The final day also featured a local veterinarian kissing a pig for a good cause.
The second annual “Kiss The Pig Contest” at the Clallam County Fair raised $1,261 for 4-H.
The “winner” was the veterinarian on whose behalf the most money was raised for 4-H.
This year that was Port Angeles veterinarian Sandra Smith, who provides care for dogs, cats, all kinds of exotic animals. She’s also a wildlife consultant.
