Clallam Democratic Party officially urges same-sex marriage in state

PORT ANGELES — The Clallam County Democratic Party has passed a resolution calling on the state Legislature to recognize same-sex marriage.

A group of 50 attended a Clallam County Democratic Central Committee meeting at the Port Angeles Library, where the elected party leadership and precinct committee officers voted unanimously to pass the resolution.

“Though the result of same-sex marriage resolution came as no surprise, I was still proud that the Clallam County Democratic Party sent a unified, uncompromising message on behalf of equality and keeping the government out of the love lives of consenting adults,” said Matthew Randazzo, county party chairman.

Randazzo introduced the resolution, which was written by Sequim attorney George Frandsen.

Currently, same-sex couples have “everything but marriage” rights in Washington.

In 2009, voters statewide rejected an initiative to repeal same-sex couples’ rights 53 percent to 47 percent.

“Since recognition of same-sex marriages is in the official platform of the Washington State Democratic Party and it is also the official position of the Obama administration, there was no compelling reason to postpone voting on a proposal for Clallam County to keep pace with the rest of our party,” Randazzo said.
