Only 8,635, or 21 percent, of the 41,120 primary election ballots mailed out Aug. 29 had been returned as of Monday for today’s primary election.
Clallam County Election Coordinator Patty Rosand said she hopes to see a rush of ballots arrive in the mail today or be dropped in a county lockbox.
County political leaders urged voters to turn out in force for the primary to demonstrate the strength of the U.S. political system in the face of last week’s terrorist attacks.
To be counted in this mail-only election — there is no voting at polls — a ballot must be postmarked by today, or dropped off before 8 p.m. tonight at the Clallam County Courthouse in Port Angeles, 223 E. Fourth St. (the dropbox is on the south side of the Courthouse); Sequim Motor Vehicle Licensing Office, 1001 E. Washington or Forks City Hall, 500 Division St.
